Biography
My first artistic accolade was from my first grade teacher, who made a fuss over a drawing I had created just to pass the time. I never forgot that moment, and she became the major influence that kept art in the forefront of my life and career. I started studying in high school, taking painting and photography and had the amazing opportunity to sell my first piece in a student show. In college I received a BFA in Advertising Design thinking that a bit more practical than fine art.
I worked as a graphic artist for several years but as the demands of home and family came upon me, I switched over to a computer career. All the while, always finding ways to express my creativity some how in my work. Currently I am employed as an Instructional Designer but my passion most of my spare time is taken up with my painting.
I did not pursue any serious individual art on my own until I moved to Western Massachusetts in 2005. I began to use my camera to capture the unique landscape and lifestyle of New England, which was so different from my New York Long Island upbringing. I kept my camera on my at all time, to capture the moments as I saw them.
In 2008 I took a watercolor class and have not stopped painting since. I love to use my own photographs as subject matter for my paintings. I try to capture unique moments in time that others miss and I am always attracted to the way light plays on subjects. I paint with a vibrant color layering technique, similar to my original photographs. I love color and light and you will see that in most of my work. Recently, I have been experimenting with a much looser technique and with some collage and mixed media. My Keurig art has become my political statement on plastic waste in our environment.
