Biography

Michael Sweeney was born and raised in upstate New York. His early interests were in drawing, printmaking, and sculpture out of a fascination with materials and process. Michael studied sculpture and drawing at SUNY Plattsburgh, before completing his M.F.A. at the University of Connecticut in 1990.

His paintings, prints and objects have been exhibited and purchased for private collections nationally. Most recently his work has appeared at the New Britain Museum of Art, as well as in the international, juried outdoor exhibition Embracing Our Differences in Sarasota, Florida.

Currently Michael works in painting, drawing, and woodworking and is interested in presenting nature and everyday objects using paper and wood. He combines traditional skills such as carving and weaving with improvisatory techniques to prompt reconsideration of his subjects, their identities, and meanings. He currently lives in Middletown, CT where his studio operates under the name Green Crow Craft.
