This course covers the essential skills needed to create oil paintings and add luminosity to oil paintings. Each class begins with a still life set up to work on drawing, design, color mixing and composition. Still life setups help artists gain control of the use of light and color in their compositions and to focus on painting and lessons that can be applied to outdoor landscapes.
Each class begins with a brief lesson and a demonstration. Focus is given to composition, distinguishing and simplifying light and shadow, brushwork, edges and mixing color. Individual instruction is given to all students. This class is recommended for students of all levels.
Teaching Artist Beverly Schirmeier has earned a Bachelors of Fine Art from Wayne State University, studied in Italy where she earned Master level credits, and is an alumni from the Lyme Art Academy. In addition, Beverly has State of CT. Certification to teach K-12 Art and Masters and 6th Year Counseling. She holds Elected Artist memberships in the Guilford Art League, Essex Art Association, Madison and Clinton Art Societies. Beverly is an Associate Artist of the Lyme Art Association, CT Pastel Society and the CT Plein Air Painters. She is currently the President of the Madison Art Society.
Her oil paintings and pastels are inspired by the color and light used by the Lyme Impressionists. They include New England landscapes and still-life art work. All of the landscapes are done “en plein air” outdoors on location. She has won juror awards at the Madison Art Society, Milford, Essex and the Clinton Art Society Juried Shows. Her pastels were accepted at the National Juried Connecticut Pastel Show for the past three years and Academic Artists.
Beverly’s artwork has been exhibited in galleries, public buildings, and in collaboration with other artists and in one-man shows. Her work resides in numerous collections and can be seen in regional art club shows and various other artistic venues along the shoreline.
